NRA: Controlled Opposition?
It is so hard for me to believe that a organization that is so large and so well funded has not been hijacked by now (or may have been started as CO). What is your opinion on this subject and do we have any examples of them being on our side or secretly against it?

They are Headquartered near Quantico Virginia.
What else is there??? Think about it. T |
Re: NRA: Controlled Opposition?
NRA opposed the abolition of the BATF(E) during the Reagan administration, according to one talk show radio host.
Charleton Heston lobbied for the Gun Control Act of 1968. NRA made a deal with an "F" rated candidate for Governor of North Carolina, to change his grade to an "A", in exchange for promising to sign a bill which allowed vanity license plates with a NRA logo. The governor to which I refer is Mike Easley. There was a minimum of 300 people that needed to sign up for the program to generate a run of license plates, and the NRA was not able to even get 300 residents of N.C. to sign up for the license plate program. |

Endorsed the National Firearms Act of 1934 Endorsed the Gun Control Act of 1968 Stood down on the machinegun ban in 1986 And most importantly, endorsed and advocated NICS. So yes, the NRA was has a very long history of being CO. |
Re: NRA: Controlled Opposition?
I can't tell you how tired I am of people's remarks and looks when I tell them "no thanks" for a NRA membership or when asked if I'm a member. I flat out tell them I think they are controlled opposition. And they think I'M the traitor.

Re: NRA: Controlled Opposition?
I don't even bother going any further into conversation than saying I think they are CO. They are so fanatical about the NRA you think I'd attacked one of their family members. Those who hear that but then start to think deeper are the ones I'm more than willing to conversate with.

Re: NRA: Controlled Opposition?
The National Rifle Association is Certified Kosher for Passover by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis.
Wayne LaPierre, the "Executive Vice President," is the Shabbos Goy front man. However, people John C. Sigler, the current NRA president, or Sandra Froman, former president and current board member, or Marion Hammer, former president and current board member, are the real power. Like the NAACP, which was founded and run by Jews for most of its existence, and did not serve the real interests of Black folk, the NRA does not serve the real interests of American gun owners. They also have a few "upstanding statesmen" like homosexual Larry Craig on their board. The NRA "wants to assure your Second Amendment rights to hunt and target shoot are 'protected,' while assuring our children are safe from 'dangerous weapons' not suited for hunting or competition shooting." |

Re: NRA: Controlled Opposition?
Personal opinion...
I think the NRA compromises too often. I don't like comprises. That means the dispute wasn't resolved. They need to grow a pair and WIN FOR ONCE! NO COMPROMISE! All that money and all they can manage is a compromise..... Makes ya wonder. They are in it for the money, not to win..... Just my .02 |
Re: NRA: Controlled Opposition?
I'm an NRA Life Member. I joined in the full rashness of youth. Being a member over the years, I've come to realize that they're not the National Rifle Association. They're the National Republican Association.
They are not interested in winning. They compromise so that there is will always be "work to do". As long as there is no real victory, the "fight" must go on -- and so must the fundraising. The handful of people at the top want that money rolling in, so that they can stuff it into their own pockets. They like to attend the political cocktail parties. They like to hobnob with the politicians. They love being a part of the political machine that tries to rule over us all. The NRA will never really try to secure our gun rights. There's no money in that. Why, if the Second Amendment ever became so secure in this country that it was as little discussed as the Third Amendment is, the NRA would have to return to being the gun safety and hunter safety organization that it started out being. (Those activities, by the way, are the remaining good that the NRA actually does, helping gun owners and users use their weapons in a safe manner.) If the NRA truly wanted to win, they would not waste time and energy proclaiming their support for the War on Drugs. They wouldn't be the bootlicking supporters of the police and military that they are. I actually rather doubt that the feds have put secret informers in place inside the NRA -- they don't have to! The NRA are the police's fawning supplicants. Hell, if the NRA really wanted to win, they probably would support drug legalization, because most of the urban resistance to gun rights comes from being afraid of the urban gangs who fight, with guns, for drug turf. Legalizing drugs would be the biggest and easiest way to reduce 'gun crime' -- and thus enormously weaken any argument for gun control. But drug legalization would upset their cop buddies, wouldn't it? The NRA would never dream of doing that! If the NRA wanted to truly win, than in elections where both the Republishit and Democrap running are both anti-gun, they would endorse the Libertarian candidate, who is assuredly pro-gun. But they NEVER do that, they just don't endorse anyone. That way they don't offend the major parties, and stay on the invitation list to the best dinner parties. The NRA doesn't want to win. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't have an informal, perhaps unspoken, agreement with the Brady bunch, that neither side will ever attempt to crush the other. This way each side will always have an 'evil opponent' to rail and rant against, and to need more money to fight. An NRA that wanted to win would never have permitted McCain to speak at their annual meeting. An organization that wanted to win would have noted that Bush the Second had promised that if a renewal of the AWB came on his desk, he'd sign it! Bush the First resigned from the NRA (which he joined shortly before starting his original run for the Presidency, I believe) when the NRA referred to the feds as 'jack-booted thugs' in a fund-raising letter. The NRA apologized quickly. See, they only use that kind of language in fund-raising letters, where they tell the members what they want to hear to get the money, but they'll never use that language when talking to the politicians. An organization that wanted to win would have asked John McCain what he had ever done for gun owners (nothing), and what any Repubican president has ever done for gun owners (nothing), and told him to go to hell! I am a Life Member of the NRA. I haven't quit only because I want to get back as much of the money I gave them as I can, in postage costs if nothing else. Otherwise, as you might be able to tell, they really piss me off. |
